The Nashville Home Tour was last weekend, showcasing furnished condos and apartments downtown: Nashville Home Tour. It was interesting to see, because I never realized there was so much living space in the heart of downtown:

I think it is important to attend events like this to stay relevant, get to know more about the Nashville residential market, and understand the direction home design is going in Nashville. Several things surprised me:

  • Wallpaper: I know wall paper is back, but I didn’t know realize it was….BACK. Like, everywhere. Which is actually quite fun! I like a more neutral pallet, personally, but it was good to see designers really stepping outside the box and not being afraid to do something a little crazy.

  • Airbnb/Short-term Rentals: Quite a few of the spaces were designed and furnished soley for short-term rentals. I have considered this as an investment strategy in the past, and it is becoming much more popular. These homes featured 3-4 bedrooms, bathrooms ensuite, which would be a little awkward for a residence but is great for vacation rental.

  • Tubs and Showers in the Master Bedroom (not Bathroom): So, this was a little weird. This was quite common among one developer, and I didn’t really get it. Besides being able to watch a movie while you take a bubble bath, it seemed a bit weird having your shower and tub where you sleep.

  • Color: So, in looking at all the interiors, it was reiterated to me that Nashville is a colorful city, inspired by art. I guess I am not in Napa anymore, Toto. There really wasn’t one neutral room, most were decorated with lot’s of print and pop.

Before we moved to Germantown, we originally looked for condos downtown and couldn’t find options that met our criteria. It’s good to see Nashville expanding, and the strong housing market helping to gentrify the parts of downtown that are still seedy. While it was fun to see the interior decorating scene here, I don’t think it is as relatable to the projects that I am currently working on as I had hoped. But, it was fun!
